Our mission: nurturing the life of the mind by encouraging the community
to enter, read, look, listen, and learn.
In pursuit of this mission, goals for the Rangeley Public Library are to serve
as a popular materials library, a child's door to learning, an education support
center, and a life-long learning center.
We support the Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read Act.
Ten public computers are available for Internet use. Children under 12 MUST have a parent with them.
USE OF COMPUTERS AND THE INTERNET
A. The Library Bill of Rights, the Freedom to Read Statement, the Freedom to View Statement, and the Book and Materials Selection Policy of the Rangeley Public Library shall apply to all electronically transmitted materials. Access to Constitutionally protected materials on the Internet shall be free, uncensored, democratic.
B. The Rangeley Public Library has no control over and does not monitor the Internet which is a global,
unregulated electronic network. The Rangeley Public Library is not responsible for the accuracy or quality
of the information provided by the Internet. Patrons should be aware that certain information may not be
appropriate for minors. Parents and/or guardians, not the Library or its staff, are ultimately responsible
for their children's use of the Internet. In order to receive federal
funding for telecommunications and in order to receive free internet service
through the Maine School & Library Network, Rangeley Public Library uses a
minimum Bess filter on all computers that access the internet. Adults may
request that the filter be turned off by a member of the staff.
C. The Library will not be responsible for any fees incurred through patron use of the Rangeley Public Library
computers. The Library will not be responsible for damages arising from the use of the Internet.
D. Persons using the computers in the Rangeley Public Library shall not engage in conduct that unreasonably
interferes with another person's use and enjoyment of the Library. Computers may be used for legal purposes
only and may not be used to harass, libel, or slander individuals or organizations.
